There is not long left for residents of Wokingham Borough to register their interest in the Big Community Switch, which provides a renewable source of energy at a fixed price for 12 months.
The scheme uses the bargaining power of a large group to help secure lower prices, with British Gas being selected to provide the fixed rate tariff for the current offer. This could see a saving of up to £178 on dual fuel tariffs paid by monthly direct debit.
In addition to helping residents make the switch to a cleaner and greener form of energy, it helps to remove the uncertainty and changing landscape of the energy market, using trusted and vetted suppliers.
Registrations for the Wokingham Borough offer opened on Friday 1 November and close on Monday 9 December. There is no obligation to go ahead with your personalised offer and registration is free.
To register and learn more, visit the Wokingham Borough page on the Big Community Switch website.
Cllr Stephen Conway, leader of the council, said: “There is not long left to register your interest and find out more about how the Big Community Switch could help you.
“Switching energy suppliers can be a challenging process, but this is a hassle-free solution that provides renewable energy at a competitive price. I would encourage everyone to register and review their personalised offer to help reduce their energy costs, as we move closer to wintertime.”
iChoosr, an independent expert in group buying, runs Big Community Switch. Since 2012, iChoosr has been organising schemes with local councils in the UK. More than two million people have registered their interest in switching energy contracts through the schemes.
In your offer, you will be able to see the details of the winning tariff, such as the standing charge, unit rate and an estimated cost for the next 12 months.
Making the switch to renewable energy helps the council address the climate emergency. The borough council developed a Climate Emergency Action Plan, following the declaration of a climate emergency in 2019.
George Frost, UK Country Manager at iChoosr, said: “Big Community Switch has a clear mission: to help households easily find better energy deals and alleviate the financial burden of high energy costs. Whether you are unhappy with a current provider or waiting for a more stable market, Big Community Switch is here to assist, helping you to manage energy costs more effectively.”
As the council does not run the Big Community Switch scheme, all enquiries should be directed to the Big Community Switch helpdesk online or call 0800 048 8285 (lines open Monday to Friday, 8am to 5.30pm).
